Santa Rosa Memorial hosts “A Night Out for Your Heart” September 20 at DeLoach Vineyards

Put your well-being on the to-do list by attending Santa Rosa Memorial's upcoming "A Night Out for Your Heart" – an educational and social event where guests can learn tips from both a cardiologist and a nutrition & fitness expert while enjoying heart-healthy appetizers paired with Sonoma County wines.

Santa Rosa cardiologist Sanjay Dhar, M.D., and Registered Dietician Cali Kent, R.D., a Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital nutritionist who also works outside the hospital as a fitness instructor, will team up to present guests with everyday ways they can improve cardiovascular health.

Dr. Dhar specializes in cardiology and interventional cardiology and will discuss managing one of America's fastest growing health problems – heart disease. Dr. Dhar has been at the forefront of recent clinical trials involving heart attack care and the diagnosis of heart disease, with a focus on risk reduction. "Cardiovascular disease has become a shocking epidemic in the 21st century, but can be avoided by making some relatively simple lifestyle changes," Dr. Dhar said.

Keys to prevention and reversal of heart disease include modifying our food and beverage choices and prioritizing physical activity among our daily routines. We have to retrain ourselves not to view exercise as optional or occasional, Cali Kent said.

"Exercise is like brushing your teeth – you have to do it every day," she said. "And we need to treat our bodies like fine-tuned machines. Too often we are more conscientious about the quality of fuel that goes into our cars than what goes into our bodies."
