Physician BioOriginally from Southern California, Dr.
Laura Norton spent most of her formative years in the Midwest. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Zoology
from Miami University of Ohio, and her Medical Degree from Indiana University
School of Medicine. She completed her internship
and residency in General Surgery at Indiana University as well then went on to
complete her Breast Surgery Fellowship at the renowned John Wayne Cancer
Institute in Santa Monica, CA - one of the premier breast surgery fellowships
in the country, certified by the Society of Surgical Oncology. Her mentors at the John Wayne Cancer
Institute are credited with developing the sentinel lymph node procedure in
breast cancer.
During her specialty training, Dr.
Norton mastered new procedures such as Nipple-Sparing Mastectomy, the placement
of partial breast radiation catheters, and Oncoplastic breast conservation
techniques. She has experience with difficult
cases, such as cancer operations for patients with existing breast implants. She is the only fellowship-trained Breast
Surgeon in Sonoma
County.
Dr. Norton has presented her research at
national and international meetings, and is published in several peer-reviewed
journals, including the Annals of Surgery and the Journal of Surgical
Oncology. Her efforts have earned
awards, most notably for her work examining breast surgery outcomes in
underinsured patients. She is a Member
of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, and a Candidate Member of the American College of Surgeons, the Society of
Surgical Oncology, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
In her free time, Dr. Norton enjoys
spending time with her family and friends, running, yoga, Pilates, and
exploring all that the North Bay
has to offer.
