Born in Wildflecken, Germany, Dr. Bozdech immigrated to the United States
with his parents in 1951. After graduating from the University of Michigan,
he served his Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at the University
of Wisconsin, where he developed a keen interest in leukemia, which was
the impetus for his choice of a fellowship in Hematology and Oncology
at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where he joined
the faculty as a Clinical Instructor.
He returned to the University of Wisconsin Medical Center as an Assistant
Professor and founded the Bone Marrow Transplantation Program, performing
bone marrow transplants in patients with leukemia. After successfully
performing more than one hundred transplants in six years, he accepted
a position as Associate Professor at UCSF and returned to California to
launch and direct the Adult Bone Marrow Transplant Program for the next
In 1991 he accepted a Hematologist/Oncologist position at Redwood Regional
Medical Group. Active in professional organizations, Dr. Bozdech enjoys
his field because he has seen and continues to see revolutionary changes
for the better in oncology for his patients, and he wants to be part of
it. He and his wife, Fran, have raised two sons and a daughter who all
live in California. He enjoys time with them, as well as reading, films,
hiking, skiing, and traveling.
