Dr. Laura Norton completed her internship and residency in General Surgery
at Indiana University and then went on to complete her breast surgery
fellowship at the renowned John Wayne Cancer Institute in Santa Monica,
CA - one of the premier breast surgery fellowships in the country, certified
by the Society of Surgical Oncology. Her mentors at the John Wayne Cancer
Institute are credited with developing the sentinel lymph node procedure
in breast cancer.
During her specialty training, Dr. Norton mastered new procedures such
as nipple-sparing mastectomy, the placement of partial breast radiation
catheters, and oncoplastic breast conservation techniques. She has experience
with difficult cases, such as cancer operations for patients with existing
breast implants. She feels strongly all women facing breast cancer should
know all their treatment options.
Dr. Norton has presented her research at national and international meetings,
and is published in several peer-reviewed journals, including the Annals
of Surgery and the Journal of Surgical Oncology. Her efforts have earned
awards, most notably for her work examining breast surgery outcomes in
underinsured patients. She is a Member of the American Society of Breast
Surgeons, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the Society
of Surgical Oncology, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
