Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital’s Oncology Department provides multidisciplinary care. The nursing staff maintains their specialized knowledge in oncology nursing through oncology-based competencies, chemotherapy certification, national oncology certification, and active participation in the local ONS Chapter and attendance at local, national and international conferences. Our multidisciplinary team includes daily team huddles with our lead nurse, oncology physician and case managers to discuss the status of each patient, their goals and discharge needs.
Patients 16 or older with an illness related to cancer are admitted to this unit for outpatient or inpatient care, specializing in chemotherapy administration, symptom management and pain control. This specialty unit provides care for the acute leukemia patient from induction chemotherapy through supportive care. The staff acknowledges each individual’s personal worth, preserves each individual’s dignity and provides state-of-the-art, safe and ethical nursing care. The care is patient-centered, self-care based and includes family, significant others and community.
