Dr. Khan believes in treating a person not just the disease. He joined St. Joseph health with a goal to transform cancer care to a passion and to build a unique community cancer center for Humboldt County. He brings diverse experience in cancer care which he learned over the years by working at Cancer Treatment Centers of America, Veterans’ Healthcare System, academic institutes including Loma Linda University and East Carolina University. He possess the unique ability to analyze the efficacy of a particular anticancer drug which he learned by working as a medical Director of clinical development and pharmaceutical industry. He is also able to evaluate and intervene to the dietary and micro nutritional needs of his patients by using his diverse knowledge which he gained by earning a master’s degree in clinical nutrition from East Carolina University.
Dr. Khan started his clinical career after graduating from medical school and establishing his own practice after finishing an internship in surgery, medicine, and dermatology in 1998. He decided to come to the US to further his education and training and completed his masters in clinical nutrition from East Carolina University which led him to accept a research position in oncology to work on immunotherapy and micronutrients role in cancer management and prevalence. He moved on to join the pharmaceutical industry and worked on the development of drugs for lymphoma. He joined East Carolina University as an assistant professor of medicine after completing his residency in internal medicine and decided to pursue his business degree.
Dr. Khan enjoys cruising his Harley on the country roads and does not mind a benign Western right on a willing horse. He enjoys playing racquet sports especially badminton, watching movies, and loves hiking.
